General Manager – Ithaca, NY

Our beautiful tented rooms and lounge areas allow our guests to slow down, connect with nature, and connect with each other. Firelight’s mission is to create comfortable and revitalizing overnight outdoor experiences to encourage self-discovery, bonding with family and friends, and a reverence for the natural environment. We strive to incorporate sustainable development and eco-tourism practices to create economic growth while preserving rural landscapes. We are looking for a general manager for our luxury campground in Ithaca, NY. You will be checking-in guests, recommending itineraries, fielding press inquiries, booking weddings and yoga retreats, lighting real fires, putting out metaphorical fires, and basically running camp.

Your Role:

Operations and Reservations

·      Train, supervise, and develop shift schedules for camp hosts, housekeeping staff, bartenders, and night security staff

·      Inspect rooms and common areas to ensure camp is run in accordance with Firelight Camps policies and standard operating procedures

·      Interact with guests, manage customer service, service recovery, and conduct front-desk check-in and check-out duties

·      Respond to phone and online reservation inquiries and manage online booking system

·      Coordinate event contracts and logistics for weddings, retreats, and special events

·      Develop packages with area tours and events

·      Generate monthly financial reports and justify expense deviations with property partner general manager

·      Be a brand ambassador for Firelight Camps

Purchasing

·      Food and beverage procurement, manage vendor relationships, manage inventory

·      Replacement furniture, fixtures, and equipment for broken or damaged items

·      Décor and other ongoing camp supplies as needed

Marketing and PR

·      Manage monthly marketing budget

·      Monitor marketing efforts and generate monthly reports on performance

·      Schedule press visits and give interviews, hospitality, and special treatment to VIP guests

·      Monitor and manage Tripadvisor, Yelp, and Booking.com reviews

·      Manage social media accounts

·      When the camp is closed in the winter, focus on marketing, brand development, identifying and pursuing group business contacts, HR planning, and help with new property research and development. 

Qualifications and Skills:

·      Bachelor’s degree or higher in hospitality management, business administration, or related field

·      3+ years of relevant working experience in the hospitality industry with 2+ years in a management or leadership role

·      Experience and background in catering, event planning, marketing, outdoor leadership, and camping a plus

·      Bright and friendly demeanor with a love for customer service

·      Excellent project management and organization skills

·      Unshakable punctuality and reliability

·      You are ready to play an “all hands on deck” role with the ability to prioritize and think strategically about how to improve processes and guest experience while also managing daily operations

·      Proficiency in Word, Excel, Power Point, and basic online and computer literacy

·      Familiarity with property management systems and revenue management strategies a plus

·      Must have flexible schedule and be willing to work long days and weekends during the summer and fall

·      Must be able to lift 40lbs and be willing to spend long periods of time outside standing and walking
